Pun-friendly Sirius just reported Q3 sub numbers, with the company adding 441,000 new subs for a total of 5.1 million. The company also reiterated guidance for 6.3 million subs at year end.
I believe this goal will be extremely tough to achieve without extremely heavy discounting of hardware and/or subcription fees. Sirius is clearly seeing a slowdown in its sub numbers - this is the third straight sequential decline in sub additions.
In addition, Sirius' guidance calls for a 168% sequential increase in subscriber additions in the fourth quarter, without the Howard Stern catalyst from last year which drove a 218% fourth-quarter sequential gain in subscriber additions.
Will be interesting to see how the actual Q4 numbers work out. I wrote about Sirius for TheStreet.com here.
